And in October there is a very special tour to Abu Simbel. In the early hours of the morning before dawn on the 22 October, we will visit the Great Temples. Occupying the innermost chamber of the temple are life-sized statues of Ramses II and three gods – Amun-Ra (the Sun God), Ptah (God of the Underworld and Darkness), and Ra-Horakhti (God of the Rising Sun).

Once encased in gold, the crumbled remains of these statues wait silently each year for 22 February - Ramses’ birthday and 22 October - Ramses’ coronation day, when the sun's first rays penetrate the depths of the temple and illuminate all but Ptah, god of darkness. To be present at this time of the year is something that you will remember for a lifetime.
